Can you believe Easter is early this year? It’s March 31st and I haven’t even gotten the decorations out yet, but I have created this cute Easter basket to use. This is an extra fun piece because it can double as a table decoration or a card for someone special and it’s easy to make.
I began by using a bag of “Flower Pot” Dicrofibers to create these colorful Easter eggs. I found the fibers to be exceptionally fun and had a great time using them. I followed the package directions and placed a layer inside the included parchment and pressed them with an iron. On some of them, I tossed in a few of the Opalescent Fusible Chips that are included to add a little decoration to the eggs and then heated it allowing them to stick into the dicrofibers.
Here is what the Dicrofibers looked like after heating them for a few seconds. See how they have become joined to form a sheet? I continued to press them a little longer to get a shiny look to them. Be careful not to press them too long and keep the iron moving so you don’t burn them.
Next, I ran the Dicrofiber sheet through my manual die cutting machine using a set of egg dies. You may have to run it through a few times to get a good cut especially if your die cutting plates are like mine and have been grooved from previous projects.
Now, I needed something to put the eggs in so I used my electronic die cutting machine and cut 2 baskets. I used some Perfect Paper Adhesive (PPA) to glue the baskets together at the very top of the handle. Then, I used a ruler and stylus to create a fold line on the handle of the top basket only so that it can be opened without tearing.
I used the PPA and a small paint brush to add some of the adhesive to the paper to glue the eggs onto. The paint brush helped to widen the line of adhesive out so that it covered more area.
I added a few eggs to the outside of the basket for fun, but I wasn’t done there. I’m a bling person. I love to add shine anywhere I can so I used a ruler and the bottle of PPA to run lines of the adhesive across the basket and then I carefully poured some of the Dicrofiber Effects Fusible Opal Chips onto the lines of glue and let them dry. Use a piece of ribbon and add a bow to the handle to give the basket a finished look.
This cute basket can be the center of attention on your table this Easter season by standing it up or can be used as a special card to give to someone. It can even be included in the basket the Easter bunny brings. This is a fun way to add a little shine to your holiday.
